Trattoria Sbrana
Speciality Dishes
Our food is made of very traditional dishes such as tripe, Tortelli Maremma, the wild boar, lamb, roast suckling pig. But it is also linked to the seasons, so we can find for example, mushrooms, chestnuts, wine and newly pressed olive oil in the autumn, with artichokes or asparagus in spring, flowers, pumpkin, zucchini, eggplant or tomatoes in the summer holiday period: practically, our menu depends on when you come!
A Brief History of Trattoria Sbrana
History of the Ghirlanda railway station
The railway of Massa Marittima to Follonica Porto was born in early 1900 and ended its existence with the passage of the front during the Second World War, when the restoration of the railway was not considered economically feasible in relation to the serious damage reported during the bombing. Designed primarily as a mining railway for the transportation of minerals extracted from the Massetano mineral seams to the ships that docked in the Gulf of Follonica, it carried moderate passenger traffic.
The Restaurant
In the current location of the restaurant were the stables used by "coachmen" to take away the timber from the forest, which was also used as fuel for the train.
The origins
It was the year here in 1958/59 and here between snacks, games of trump and "panfortate" you find the origins of the restaurant. In the current location of the restaurant there was the circle of P.C.I which functioned as a bar, where the Ghirlandini (people of Ghirlanda) not only met to eat, drink and play, but in short, it was a reference point. After a few years the circle became noticed and various owners passed until a lady entered the scene with a good nature and a passion for cooking: Tommi Lina.
From the first percentage, then the occasion: the owner decides to sell and Lina together with her husband Alfo decide to take over the premises to which they give the name "SBRANA", the nickname by which Alfo's father was called by the coachmen. At first only five tables, today - run by the grandchildren - it is a great pizza restaurant, much appreciated, where the home cooking by the owners is in the Maremmana tradition.
